Virgin mobile seems to have gotten massively worse since I checked them out in February.

It is hilarious on multiple levels to read Al-Qaeda's terrifying vision of a devastated America in the wake of a nuclear attack.

Washington is laid to waste. The Capitol is a blackened, smoking ruin. The White House has been razed. Countless thousands are dead.

This is the apocalyptic scene terrorists hope to create if they ever get their hands on a nuclear bomb.

The computer-generated image below was posted on an Islamic extremists' website yesterday.

U.S. analysts said a lot of effort had been put into the video - entitled Nuclear Jihad, The Ultimate Terror - with graphics, music, and clips of different leaders and groups.

The same expertise seems to have gone into creating this image of a devastated Washington.

This is amusing because:

1. Oh noes, teh terroristz haves photoshops! Teh pixels!

2. The picture in question is Fallout 3 concept art.

3. All. Of. The. Above.

D&D 4e

So, I illicitly acquired PDFs of D&D 4th Edition.

I like it. There are a lot of differences (it feels far more removed from 3e than 3e did from 2e), but I think I can sum it up by saying that there seem to be far less places where you have to gimp yourself to be awesome.

The problem with public transport in America

On those days when I go into the dA office, it's a 70 mile drive through LA freeways, with gas at record (for America) prices.

So I naturally considered taking the train. There's a station in scenic San Bernadino about 7 miles away, and once I reach LA I could take a short bus ride to the office.

There's just one problem. The car is: cheaper, faster, and more convenient.

I'd be far more tempted by the train if it produced a saving in at least one of these areas.

Ubuntu: sharing music with iTunes

1. sudo aptitude install mt-daapd
2. Edit /etc/mt-daapd.conf so that mp3_dir = [your music directory]. (Also any other configuration changes you might want to make; the file is well-commented.)
3. sudo /etc/init.d/mt-daapd restart

Really this would work on any Debian-derived distro... but I've only tried it on Ubuntu.

Disadvantages of a Hollywood office

Yesterday when leaving work I stepped out the back door of our building and almost blundered through someone filming a scene for something.

The back doors of our building had been made over into a hospital entrance, and someone who was the very embodiment of The Wise Old Bum was dispensing advice to people in scrubs, while some sort of faux-homeless band played on the bridge crossing the alley to the parking garage.

Weird.
